Hello

Thank you for wanting to learn a little bit more about the woman behind MargeTravels! She's still a work in progress, but aren't we all?

My Story

Hi, I'm Margot. Not really Marge, and probably more aligned with Sarge (my college teammates gave me that nickname), and I love hiking in United States National Parks! In 2018 I took an impromptu solo adventure to Yosemite and hiked to the top of Yosemite Falls. I did it in running shoes, one bottle of water, no tripod, no snacks, didn't know what AllTrails was. Over 3,000 feet of elevation gain later I was hooked. I grew up visiting National Parks and National Historic places on summer van road trips cross country with my teacher parents, so this was more of a reinvigoration. I can remember our family trip to Yellowstone that we documented with our VHS camcorder, and framed photos in our basement. The 90's version of IG, so I suppose I was destined for this!

Over the last seven years I've visited 34 National Parks and hiked hundreds of miles. Through that process I recognized how good I felt on the trail, and on my own exploring. Navigating various challenges, researching destinations, and driving all over the country gave me confidence. I eventually realized I liked myself more when I was on the road alone and I wanted other women to feel the sense of accomplishment that it gave me. In 2023 I recruited a core group of friends to join me on a ladies' hiking group trip to Glacier National Park. To date it's my favorite place on the planet and I wanted to share it with them. It went so well that before we went home, they all committed to a Yellowstone trip the next year and MargeTravels was born! Since then, I've become a Wilderness First Aid Certified Host and continue to add new destinations that I've vetted to the growing list of hiking trip locations.

As a lifelong athlete (volleyball was my sport) and fitness enthusiast it's important to me that those who join my trips also love a good challenge. Many of the ladies have used the trip as a motivator to change their lifestyle and get outside their comfort zone - I love that piece of this! The mantra on the trail and in life that my travelers embrace is "Keep Fucking Going!" There's really not much better than creating a brand-new girl gang that's cheering each other on and instinctively helping each other on every trip, so come along on the next one!

As you can see from that first Yosemite picture below, we never arrive. We just keep going :)
